Krumperk Castle (Slovenia)

Weather…

Krumperk Castle, located near Domžale, is one of the best-preserved Renaissance fortresses in central Slovenia. The current building was constructed in the late 16th century, around 1580, by the Rauber family on the ruins of an older medieval castle. The Rauber family is closely linked to the defense against Ottoman incursions, particularly Adam Rauber, who was a hero of the Battle of Sisak in 1593. The castle is characterized by a square floor plan with four corner towers, a typical feature of the defensive architecture of that time. Inside, it once housed valuable art collections and historical furniture, though little remained after the looting that followed World War II. Today, the castle is privately owned and is mostly accessible to the public from the outside or during special events. The surrounding grounds include a significant equestrian center, continuing the tradition of horse breeding in this region. The castle remains an important monument to the nobility of the Carniola region and the eventful history of border defense.
