Its name derives from a vast glacial lake that once filled the valley, now symbolized by the characterful, heart-shaped Planšar Lake. Jezersko is esteemed as the cradle of Slovenian mountaineering and is a member of the International Mountaineering Villages association, focusing on sustainable tourism.
