Košice Zoo (Slovakia)

Weather…

Opened in 1985, the Košice Zoo is the largest zoological facility in Central Europe, boasting an impressive total area of 288 hectares. The expansive grounds in the valley of the Kavečiansky potok, surrounded by dense Carpathian forests, provide the animals with exceptionally large and naturalistic enclosures. A prominent feature of the zoo is its specialization in the fauna of the Eurasian region, particularly large predators and ungulates native to Europe. The bear enclosure, where brown bears coexist in a spacious section of forest, is considered one of the largest of its kind on the entire continent. In addition to European species, the zoo presents a diverse selection of exotic animals, including primates, rare bird species, and reptiles. Through the recently added botanical nature trail and extensive breeding programs for endangered Carpathian wildlife, the zoo successfully combines recreation, nature conservation, and environmental education.
