Kolárovo, formerly known as Guta, is situated at the confluence of the Váh and Little Danube rivers in the southern part of Slovakia. The town is famous for its unique technical monument, a floating ship mill anchored on a dead branch of the Little Danube, which now functions as a museum. Access to the mill is provided by the longest wooden bridge in Europe, measuring 86 meters in length and constructed entirely from timber. First mentioned in 1268, Kolárovo was a royal estate in the Middle Ages and played a vital role in the agricultural and fishing industries of the Danube Lowland. The surrounding area is characterized by fertile soil and a mild climate, making it one of the most productive agricultural regions in the country. Today, the town has around 10,000 inhabitants and serves as an important cultural center for the Hungarian minority in Slovakia. Its annual fairs and traditional festivals keep the local heritage alive while attracting visitors interested in history and nature.
