Privina Glava Monastery

Privina Glava Monastery is situated at the westernmost edge of the Fruška Gora mountain range, near the town of Šid in Serbia. Legend states it was founded in the 12th century by a landowner named Priva, but the earliest confirmed historical records date to 1566. The monastery church is dedicated to the Archangels Michael and Gabriel and stands as the western bastion of the Fruška Gora monastic community. The current church structure was erected between 1742 and 1760, showcasing a blend of traditional Serbian-Byzantine architectural forms and Baroque stylistic influences. Fortunately, the monastery avoided the total destruction experienced by many other regional sites during World War II, though its treasury was looted of significant artifacts. In recent years, the complex has seen extensive development, with the addition of new chapels and residential buildings for visitors. Its peaceful setting and historic significance make it a prominent site for both religious pilgrims and cultural historians studying the region's diverse heritage.
