Kuveždin Monastery (Serbia)

Weather…

Kuveždin Monastery is located on the northwestern slopes of Fruška Gora, near the village of Divoš in Serbia. Established in 1520 by Despot Stefan Štiljanović, the monastery is dedicated to Saint Sava and Saint Simeon, the founders of the Serbian church. It played a pivotal role in preserving Serbian cultural identity during the Ottoman era and was once home to a vast and significant library of religious texts. The current architectural appearance of the church is a blend of Baroque and Neoclassical styles, following major renovations conducted in the 19th century. The monastery suffered catastrophic damage during World War II when many of its structures were leveled and its famous iconostasis by Pavle Simić was lost. For decades after the war, the site remained in ruins until a comprehensive restoration project was launched in the early 21st century. Now a fully functional male monastery, Kuveždin stands as a testament to religious resilience and continues to be a major pilgrimage site in the Vojvodina region.
