Divša Monastery (Serbia)

Weather…

Divša Monastery, also widely known as Đipša, is situated in the western part of the Fruška Gora mountain range in Serbia. Tradition identifies Despot Jovan Branković as its founder at the end of the 15th century, though the earliest written records date back to 1566. The original architecture followed the Morava school style, which was characteristic of Serbian religious buildings of that era. During the 18th century, the complex underwent significant architectural changes, including the addition of a Baroque bell tower and the enlargement of the main church. Tragically, the monastery was almost completely destroyed during World War II when it was mined by occupying forces, resulting in the loss of many historic artifacts. Reconstruction efforts began in the 1980s, eventually restoring the monastery to its functional state. Today, it serves as an active nunnery and is valued for its serene, secluded atmosphere amidst the dense forests of the national park.
