Weather…

Pico de Formoso, whose Portuguese name aptly translates to 'Beautiful Peak,' is one of the most aesthetic elevations in the central mountain massif of São Tomé. Located in the Caué district, it is characterized by its symmetrical, almost conical shape that rises majestically above the green canopy of the Obô National Park. The mountain's slopes are covered by a dense carpet of montane rainforest, where humidity almost constantly reaches saturation point, favoring the formation of moss and elfin forests. Geologically, Pico de Formoso consists of basaltic rock formed millions of years ago during the main activity phase of the volcanic Cameroon Line. The mountain plays a crucial role as a watershed, feeding several important streams that secure the water supply for lower-lying settlements. Due to its extreme steepness and dense undergrowth, it is considered one of the most difficult peaks on the island to explore. It hosts an extraordinary concentration of endemic flora, especially rare orchid species that thrive exclusively at these high elevations.
