Central Siberian Plateau (Russia)

Weather…

The Central Siberian Plateau is a colossal, heavily dissected upland that dominates the vast expanse between the mighty Yenisey and Lena rivers. Geologically, the region is defined by the Siberian Traps, a massive igneous province formed by one of the largest known volcanic events in Earth's history, which blanketed the landscape in thick layers of basalt. The topography features a dramatic interplay between broad, wind-swept flat-topped plateaus and deeply incised, precipitous river canyons. Despite the punishing extreme continental climate and continuous permafrost, the plateau is renowned for its staggering subsurface wealth, containing some of the world's most significant deposits of diamonds, gold, nickel, and platinum, making it a rugged yet vital economic frontier.
