Szklarska Poręba is a photogenic mountain town tucked away between the Jizera and Karkonosze Mountains in southwestern Poland. Its name relates to the historical glassworks that once thrived here, a tradition that is still celebrated in local museums and glass boutiques. The region's subalpine climate is exceptionally clean and beneficial for health, making it a popular wellness destination since the 19th century. The town's natural highlights include two magnificent waterfalls: Kamieńczyk Waterfall, the highest in the Polish Karkonosze at 27 meters, and the easily accessible Szklarki Waterfall. Skiers and snowboarders flock to Mount Szrenica (1362 m), which provides extensive slopes and modern lift facilities. Additionally, the Jakuszyce district is world-renowned as Poland's best cross-country skiing center, hosting the international Piast Race every year on its vast network of trails. Reaching the town is convenient by car or through the scenic railway line from Jelenia Góra. Local eateries specialize in mountain-style dumplings and hearty venison dishes. The peak season for visitors is during the winter months for snow sports, and from late spring through autumn for hiking and mountain biking. The town serves as an excellent starting point for various trails leading into both the Polish and Czech sides of the Giant Mountains.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
