💡 Tips
- Mountain weather changes rapidly; always bring a windproof and waterproof layer, even for summer hiking.
- Buy your ski passes online in advance to save money and avoid the morning queues at the Svatý Petr and Medvědín stations.
- Use the free local ski bus to travel between the different areas of town (like Bedřichov and Svatý Petr).
- If driving in winter, ensure you have winter tires and snow chains, as the mountain roads can be very treacherous.
- Take the cable car up Medvědín for an easier start to the beautiful hike towards the source of the Elbe River (Pramen Labe).
🍽 Food
A traditional, sour sourdough soup with mushrooms and potatoes, great for warming up after a day on the slopes.
Sweet yeast dumplings filled or topped with local mountain blueberries, found in many traditional mountain huts (boudy).
Hot mulled wine; grab a cup from a stand near the ski lifts to keep warm.

Spindleruv Mlyn, often called the 'St. Moritz of Czechia,' is the premier tourist destination in the Krkonoše Mountains. Positioned in the valley of the upper Elbe River, it is surrounded by peaks like Medvědín. In winter, the Svatý Petr and Medvědín ski areas offer top-tier slopes for all skill levels and modern lift facilities. The area is also a major hub for cross-country skiing, connected to the extensive Krkonoše artery trail. During the summer months, the town becomes a magnet for hikers and mountain bikers. A popular excursion is the hike to the source of the Elbe, located at an altitude of 1,386 meters. For thrill-seekers, there is a summer bobsleigh track and adventure parks. The town has high-quality infrastructure, including wellness hotels, restaurants, and animated après-ski spots. The white bridge spanning the Elbe in the town center is a local landmark. It is easily accessible from Prague in about two hours by car or bus.
