Mikołajki is the most famous resort in the Masurian Lake District, often called the 'Sailing Capital of Poland'. Situated between Lake Mikołajskie and Lake Tałty, it provides direct access to Lake Śniardwy, the largest lake in the country. The town received its city rights in 1726. The modern marina, known as the 'Sailors' Village', is the animated center of the town, hosting international regattas and shanty music festivals throughout the summer. The lakeside promenade is lined with traditional fish restaurants, cafes, and boutiques. Key historical sights include the 1842 Evangelical church and the unique Museum of Polish Reformation. Nearby, the Łuknajno Lake nature reserve is a UNESCO-listed site famous for its large population of mute swans. Mikołajki has high-end tourism facilities, including luxury hotels and extensive water parks. While June to August is the peak season for sailors, the town remains a beautiful destination for nature lovers in the spring and autumn.
