Ruciane-Nida is an easy on the eye town in the southern Masurian Lake District, established in 1966 by merging the settlements of Ruciane and Nida. It is almost entirely surrounded by the Piska Forest, one of Poland's largest woodland areas. A highlight for visitors is the Guzianka Lock, built in 1879, which facilitates boat traffic between Lake Bełdany and Lake Guzianka by managing the water level difference. Lake Nidzkie, bordering the town, is designated as a 'quiet zone', meaning motorboats are restricted. This makes Ruciane-Nida a haven for sailing, kayaking, and those seeking peaceful contact with nature. Nearby, the Pranie Forester's House hosts a museum dedicated to the famous Polish poet Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński. The area is also crisscrossed with scenic cycling and walking trails through the wilderness. The best time to experience the local nature is from May to September.
