Giżycko is a key hub in the Great Masurian Lakes region, strategically positioned between Lake Niegocin and Lake Kisajno. One of its most unique technical attractions is the hand-operated swing bridge over the Łuczański Canal, built in 1889, which remains the only one of its kind in Europe still in daily use. History enthusiasts are drawn to the Boyen Fortress, a massive, star-shaped Prussian fortification from the mid-19th century. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the historic Water Tower or relax at the modern Ekomarina, one of the largest marinas in Poland. The town also features the ruins of a 14th-century Teutonic castle, now part of a luxury hotel complex. During the summer, Giżycko hosts many cultural events, including international sailing regattas and air shows. The area is well-suited for all forms of water sports, while in winter, it becomes a center for ice sailing. The peak tourist season is from June to August.
