Kórnik (Poland)

Weather…

Kórnik Castle acquired its current English Neo-Gothic style in the 19th century during a major remodel by Tytus Działyński. Beyond its romantic facade, it houses the Kórnik Library, one of Poland's most important academic institutions, storing priceless manuscripts and early prints. The most striking interior room is the Moorish Room, designed with intricate oriental motifs inspired by the Alhambra in Granada. The castle is encircled by a world-class arboretum, established in the 18th century, which now features over 3,000 species of trees and shrubs. It is particularly panoramic in late May when the azaleas and rhododendrons are in full bloom. Local folklore tells of the "White Lady," the ghost of Teofila Działyńska, who allegedly emerges from her portrait to wander the halls at night. Located just 20 km south of Poznań, Kórnik is an easy day trip by car or public transport. Late spring is undoubtedly the best time to visit to fully experience the botanical gardens and the lakeside scenery.
