Poznań New Zoo (Poland)

Weather…

The New Zoo in Poznań, spaciously situated around the artificial Lake Malta (Jezioro Maltańskie), is an outstanding example of modern, animal-friendly landscape architecture. Unlike the cramped, historic Old Zoo in the city center, this forest zoo was designed across a massive expanse of woodlands and hills, allowing the animals to live largely undisturbed in almost natural territories. Given the enormous distances involved, a welcoming, free park train transports visitors from enclosure to enclosure. The zoo gained international recognition for its bear rescue station ('Azyl dla niedźwiedzi'), which provides abused circus and dancing bears with a vast, safe tract of forest for rehabilitation. Another point of pride for the facility is the modern elephant house with its expansive outdoor area, as well as successful breeding groups of Siberian tigers and rare birds of prey, which find optimal living conditions within the natural coniferous forest.
