Dunajec River Gorge (Poland)

Weather…

The Dunajec River Gorge presents one of the most impressive karst landscapes in Central Europe, where the river has carved deeply into the extremely hard limestone rocks of the Pieniny Mountains. The steeply plunging, almost vertical rock faces rise hundreds of meters above the water surface, forming a highly dramatic contrast with the dense, species-rich forests clinging to the slopes. The gorge is not only of extraordinary geological importance but also features a specific microclimate that strongly favors the survival of rare, relict plant species. Traditional wooden rafting, skillfully operated by local Gorals in pretty traditional dress, has provided an incredibly unique perspective on the towering rock formations, including the iconic Sokolica and Trzy Korony peaks, directly from the water since the early 19th century.
