The Pieniny High Plateau, part of the Pieniny mountain range in southern Poland, is characterized by spectacular limestone morphology. Its relief features rugged rock formations, deep gorges, and steep cliffs that stand in sharp contrast to the gentler slopes of the surrounding Beskids. The centerpiece of the region is the Dunajec River Gorge, where the river winds through limestone walls rising up to 300 meters high. The highest peak of the Central Pieniny is Trzy Korony (Three Crowns) at 982 meters, known for its distinctive jagged summit. Botanically, the plateau serves as a refuge for rare endemic species, such as the Pieniny wallflower, supported by the specific microclimates of the limestone rocks. The Pieniny National Park, established in 1932, protects this unique natural landscape, which is geologically and ecologically among the most precious in Central Europe. The area is also world-renowned for traditional river rafting on the Dunajec, a practice dating back centuries.

The Pieniny Plateau is a freely accessible mountain area. It can be explored via hiking trails. The famous Dunajec Gorge and viewpoints are highlights.

Duration varies greatly. A short hike to a viewpoint takes about two hours. A full-day hike across the plateau can take five to seven hours.

The plateau is in southern Poland on the Slovak border. Good starting points are Krościenko or Szczawnica. By car on route 969. Bus connections from Kraków.
