Luque was founded in 1781 and is today one of Paraguay's most significant cities, known for its rich artisanal traditions and strategic importance. The city is nicknamed the "City of Music and Jewelry" because it is the hub for producing high-quality harps, guitars, and famous gold and silver filigree. A unique historical moment occurred in 1868 when Luque temporarily served as the capital of the Republic of Paraguay during the Triple Alliance War. Today, the city hosts the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, the country's primary gateway, as well as the headquarters of the South American Football Confederation, CONMEBOL. Luque is also known for its strong local identity, reflected in the Sportivo Luqueño football club and the pig symbol (Kure Luque), which is deeply rooted in the city's folklore. The architecture blends modern infrastructure with colonial elements, particularly near the Church of Virgen del Rosario, which dominates the city center.
