Setermoen is the administrative center of Bardu Municipality in Troms County and is widely regarded as one of Norway's most significant military hubs. The town houses the Setermoen Camp, established in 1898, which remains a cornerstone of the nation's defense infrastructure. Set in the Bardudalen valley, the settlement is surrounded by dense forests and rugged peaks, giving it a characteristic Northern Norwegian inland atmosphere. Geographically, the area is defined by the confluence of the Barduelva and Salangselva rivers, both of which are celebrated for their salmon and trout populations. Beyond its military status, Setermoen serves as a gateway to the untamed wilderness of inner Troms and is located near Polar Park, the world's northernmost animal park. Historically, the area was settled in the late 18th century by pioneers from Østerdalen, who brought farming and forestry traditions to the region. The modern town features diverse amenities, including specialized schools and training facilities that serve both the local civilian population and the resident armed forces.
