Bodø Cathedral (Norway)

Weather…

Bodø Cathedral, known as Bodø domkirke, is the seat of the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland and a significant example of modern Norwegian sacral architecture. After the city's old church was completely destroyed during a German air raid on May 27, 1940, planning for a new building began following the war. Architects Herman Munthe-Kaas and Gudolf Blakstad designed the current structure, which was completed in 1956. The cathedral is characterized by its simple, functional concrete form, with the 36-meter-high free-standing bell tower being a distinctive feature of the ensemble. Inside, the church impresses with a 12-meter-high stained glass mural behind the altar and acoustics that make it an important venue for concerts in Northern Norway. The building is listed as a protected cultural monument and represents the city's determination to rebuild after the devastation of World War II.
