The town was almost completely leveled during World War I as it sat directly on the Salonica Front. The skeletal remains of the St. Elijah Church serve as a powerful monument to this period. Today, Star Dojran has been rebuilt as a lively summer resort with a long lakefront promenade, numerous cafes, and beaches that offer a Mediterranean-like atmosphere. Local cuisine is centered around lake fish, with 'Dojran Carp' being a must-try dish for visitors. The area is easily accessible by car from Skopje via the main highway toward Gevgelija. The best time to visit is during the summer months when the water temperature reaches 27°C, though the mild climate makes it pleasant in late spring as well.
