Mustafa Pasha Mosque (North Macedonia)

Weather…

The Mustafa Pasha Mosque stands as one of the most significant examples of Ottoman architecture in the Balkans, located on a hill overlooking the Old Bazaar in Skopje. Commissioned by Mustafa Pasha, a prominent vizier under Sultans Bayezid II and Selim I, the mosque was completed in 1492. The structure features a large, single-domed prayer hall and a slender minaret that reaches a height of 42 meters. The interior is decorated with intricate floral patterns and Arabic calligraphy, reflecting the artistic standards of the late 15th century. Adjoining the mosque is the turbe (mausoleum) of Mustafa Pasha and his daughter, as well as a sarcophagus made of white marble. The complex survived the devastating earthquake of 1963 with minimal structural damage, preserving its original form for over five centuries. Extensive restoration work in the early 21st century has ensured the preservation of its historical and religious integrity.
