Renkum Hill (Netherlands)

Weather…

The Renkum Hill is located on the southern edge of the Veluwe and marks the transition to the Renkums Beekdal, an ecologically valuable stream valley. The formation is a product of Pleistocene glacial movements, which piled up enormous amounts of sand and gravel into a prominent relief. Historically, this area was known for its watermills and paper industry, which benefited from the steep slopes and clean spring water. The hill has broad views over the renatured floodplains and serves as an important corridor for wildlife between the Veluwe highlands and the Rhine Valley. In recent times, great efforts have been made to restore the original heath and forest landscape after the area was used industrially for decades. The geological structure of the hill allows for efficient infiltration of rainwater, which feeds the surrounding ecosystem.
