Huissen is a pleasant, historic town in the Lingewaard municipality, within the Dutch province of Gelderland. The town is strategically located on the Nederrijn river, just a stone's throw from Arnhem. Huissen received city rights as early as 1314 and has a rich past as a fortified town, remnants of which are still visible today. The town is also known as a center for greenhouse horticulture, particularly for growing flowers and plants. The annual 'Huissense Gildenfeesten' is a major cultural event celebrating the town's historic guilds and attracts many visitors. The compact and pretty center, with its historic buildings, narrow streets, and the Dominican monastery, is first-rate for a stroll. The dikes along the Nederrijn offer wonderful opportunities for cycling and hiking with views of the river and the surrounding landscape. Thanks to its proximity to Arnhem and Nijmegen, Huissen is easily accessible by car via the A325 or by public transport. The best time to visit is from spring to autumn, when the weather is pleasant and the gardens are in full bloom.
