Best season
Dorob is open year-round, but the best time is the cool winter season from May to September. Temperatures are then more pleasant and the desert landscape is at its most beautiful.
Best time of day
Early morning hours and late afternoons are good for observing the sparse wildlife. During the midday heat, activities are barely possible due to high temperatures.
Etiquette
Stay on marked roads and paths to protect the fragile desert vegetation. Collecting rocks or plants is strictly forbidden.
What to bring
Bring plenty of water - at least 3 litres per person - and wear a hat and sunscreen. Binoculars are useful for birdwatching and exploring the vast landscape.
Getting there
The park lies along the coast north of Swakopmund and is reachable via the main C34 road. Many areas are only accessible with 4x4, especially near the sea.
What to expect
Wildlife here is less dense than in other parks - enjoy the vastness and silence of the desert. Keep an eye out for oryx, springbok and various bird species adapted to aridity.
