Karibib is located in the Erongo Region of western Namibia, positioned midway between the capital city of Windhoek and the coastal resort of Swakopmund. The town developed in the late 19th century around a vital watering hole and a station of the Rhenish Missionary Society. With the completion of the narrow-gauge railway in 1900, Karibib experienced rapid economic growth as a significant transit point. The town is globally renowned for its high-quality marble deposits, which are extracted from surrounding quarries and have been used in prestigious projects like the Frankfurt Airport. In addition to marble, gold mining at the nearby Navachab mine is a cornerstone of the local economy. The town's layout features several historical structures from the German colonial era, such as the Hotel Woll and the original railway station. Today, Karibib is also home to a major airbase for the Namibian Air Force, emphasizing its strategic importance.
