The Metoro Solar Park, located in Cabo Delgado Province, is one of the largest photovoltaic facilities in northern Mozambique. Completed in 2022, the project has an installed capacity of approximately 41 megawatts. The plant was developed by the French renewable energy company Neoen in partnership with the national utility EDM. Covering an area of 138 hectares, it features around 121.500 solar modules that generate an estimated 69 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually. The facility is strategically vital for stabilizing the power supply in the northern region, which is seeing increased economic activity due to natural resource projects. Despite regional security concerns, the successful delivery of the Metoro plant underscores Mozambique's commitment to expanding renewable energy and reducing its reliance on fossil fuels in the national grid.
