Quirimba Island is a gem in northern Mozambique and part of the archipelago of the same name. Deeply rooted in history, the island was once an important trading center. Today, it is primarily known for its vast coconut plantations, which have been managed by the Gessner family for generations. Visitors can explore the remains of colonial architecture and old churches that bear witness to the Portuguese past. The nature on Quirimba is panoramic and untouched. At low tide, it is possible to walk through the mangroves to the neighboring island of Ibo, offering a unique experience. The waters around the island are part of a national park and home to an incredible variety of coral and marine life. It is the well-suited place for travelers seeking peace off the beaten track. Local cuisine is based on what the island and sea provide: coconuts in all variations and freshly caught fish. There are no large luxury resorts, which preserves the island's authentic charm. The best time to visit is between May and October. Quirimba is only accessible by boat or by walking at low tide, making the visit a true adventure.
