Afungi LNG Park

The Afungi LNG Park, located on the Afungi Peninsula in Cabo Delgado Province, is designed to be the central onshore processing hub for Mozambique’s massive natural gas reserves. The site hosts the infrastructure for the multi-billion dollar 'Mozambique LNG' project led by TotalEnergies, alongside planned facilities for ExxonMobil's Rovuma LNG. The park’s primary purpose is to receive natural gas from offshore fields via subsea pipelines, purify it, and liquefy it for global export. The complex features multiple liquefaction 'trains', immense storage tanks, and a dedicated marine terminal for LNG carriers. Despite temporary suspensions due to regional security issues, Afungi remains the most significant industrial undertaking in the country's history, with total investments exceeding 20 billion US dollars. The site's development has led to the creation of extensive new infrastructure, including worker housing, roads, and relocated community settlements. Once fully operational, Afungi will rank among the world's largest energy hubs, fundamentally altering Mozambique’s economic landscape for decades to come.
