Mtwara Port (Tanzania)

Weather…

The Port of Mtwara is located in southern Tanzania in a deep natural bay that gives excellent navigation conditions for large commercial vessels. Built between 1948 and 1954 as part of the ambitious 'Groundnut Scheme' initiated by the British administration, the port has since developed into a regional economic driver. Today, it is the most important export point for cashew nuts, one of Tanzania's most valuable agricultural commodities, harvested extensively in the surrounding regions. The natural water depth of approximately 10 meters allows ocean-going vessels to dock without the need for constant dredging. In recent years, the port has gained new strategic importance following the discovery of natural gas deposits in the Ruvuma Basin, serving as a logistics base for offshore operations. Its modernized infrastructure includes specialized berths and large storage areas.
