Mnazi Bay Gas Field (Tanzania)

Weather…

The Mnazi Bay gas field is located in the Mtwara Region of southeastern Tanzania, near the border with Mozambique. It was discovered in 1982 by AGIP and stands as the country's second major natural gas project after Songo Songo. The development of this field has been crucial for diversifying Tanzania's energy mix and promoting economic growth in the southern regions. Gas from the field is processed at the Madimba processing plant before being transported through the national gas pipeline to Dar es Salaam. The project is operated through a joint venture involving Maurel & Prom, Wentworth Resources, and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC). In addition to contributing to the national grid, the field provides direct energy to local communities and industries in Mtwara. Its strategic location near the Mtwara deep-water port positions it as a central hub for future gas exports and industrial clusters.
