Biljarda Museum (Montenegro)

Weather…

The Biljarda Museum in Cetinje was once the residence of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, Montenegro's famous prince-bishop and poet. The building was constructed in 1838 based on the plans of a Russian emissary and served as the country's political and cultural center. It received its unusual name from the first billiard table in Montenegro, which Njegoš had transported from Vienna. The architecture of Biljarda is fortress-like, featuring four corner towers and defensive walls, reflecting the uncertain times of the 19th century. Today, it houses a museum dedicated to Njegoš's personal life, his literary works, and the history of the Petrović dynasty. A notable exhibit is the monumental relief map of Montenegro, created in 1916 by Austrian officers. The complex is situated right next to the Cetinje Monastery and stands as a key symbol of Montenegrin statehood.
