Lovćen National Park (Montenegro)

Weather…

Lovćen National Park, established in 1952, encompasses the central section of the Lovćen mountain massif in southwestern Montenegro. Covering an area of 62.2 square kilometers, the park is uniquely situated at the boundary between Mediterranean and continental climate zones, resulting in an exceptionally rich flora and fauna. The most prominent feature of the park is Jezerski Vrh peak (1,657 m), which houses the mausoleum of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, Montenegro's most significant ruler, poet, and philosopher. To reach the mausoleum, visitors must climb 461 steps through a stone-carved tunnel. Geologically, the park is a prime example of karst topography, filled with deep depressions, sinkholes, and craggy limestone formations. Lovćen is deeply intertwined with Montenegrin national identity, often referred to as the 'Olympus of Montenegro' and the cradle of its history. Ivanova Korita, a lush valley within the park, serves as the main resort area, offering numerous hiking trails and educational centers that showcase the region's ecological and cultural importance.
