Mili Atoll (Marshall Islands)

Weather…

Mili Atoll is one of the most expansive coral systems in the Marshall Islands, comprising a ring of 92 individual islands that encircle a massive lagoon covering 760 square kilometers. It possesses the second-largest land area of any atoll in the country, making it a significant sanctuary for both terrestrial and marine biodiversity. Historically, Mili served as a major Japanese military base during World War II, leaving behind a legacy that now rests beneath the waves. The lagoon floor is a world-class diving destination, home to numerous shipwrecks and aircraft that have been reclaimed by coral growth. The terrestrial environment consists of lush coconut groves and pandanus trees, providing vital nesting grounds for rare seabird species. Due to its remote location, the atoll maintains an exceptionally pristine environment, where reef sharks, rays, and hundreds of tropical fish species inhabit the spirited coral gardens of the reef passages.
