Tsingy de Bemaraha (Madagascar)

Weather…

Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park in western Madagascar is famous for its spectacular karst landscapes consisting of razor-sharp limestone needles. This geological formation was created by the erosion of limestone plateaus over millions of years, with groundwater carving out horizontal caves and vertical fissures. The area was inscribed as Madagascar's first UNESCO World Heritage site in 1990. The labyrinthine structures provide unique microhabitats for numerous endemic species that have adapted to life on the bare stone or within the deep canyons. Eleven species of lemurs, including Von der Decken's Sifaka, inhabit the reserve. The park is divided into 'Petit Tsingy' and 'Grand Tsingy', the latter accessible via spectacular suspension bridges and via ferrata routes. It is reachable during the dry season from May to November, while remaining isolated during the rainy season due to impassable tracks.
