Rham Plateau (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Rham Plateau is a historical district in Luxembourg City, situated on a steep rocky outcrop opposite the Holy Ghost Plateau. It has played a crucial role in the city's defense since the 15th century, with significant fortifications first built by the Burgundians. In the 17th century, the French military engineer Vauban extensively reinforced the site, constructing massive barracks and defensive walls. Following the demolition of the fortress in 1867, the barracks were repurposed into a military hospital and later into a social care center. Today, the plateau is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site and features spectacular views of the Grund district and the Alzette valley. Its well-preserved towers and walls are key stops along the Wenzel circular walk, showcasing centuries of military architecture.
