Luxembourg American Cemetery (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Luxembourg American Cemetery in Hamm is one of the most significant memorials for US soldiers fallen in World War II in Europe. It was established on December 29, 1944, while the fighting of the Battle of the Bulge was still ongoing. Across 17 hectares, 5,076 American service members now rest, their graves marked by white marble crosses or Stars of David. The site is particularly famous as the final resting place of General George S. Patton Jr., who was buried among his men at his own request. His grave is situated at the head of the burial plots, surrounded by his comrades. An impressive chapel and two large granite map walls document the course of the campaigns in Western Europe. Maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission, the cemetery is a place of profound silence and gratitude, symbolizing the historical alliance between the US and Luxembourg.
