Larochette Castle (Luxembourg)

Weather…

Larochette Castle, situated above the valley of the White Ernz, is one of Luxembourg's most striking ruins, dating back to the 11th century. It was built on a narrow rocky promontory and consists of several noble manor houses inhabited by different aristocratic families, including the Lords of Homburg and Créhange. A devastating fire in 1565 destroyed a large part of the complex, which was never fully rebuilt afterward and fell into decay over the centuries. In the late 20th century, the Luxembourgish state acquired the ruins and carried out extensive conservation and restoration work, particularly on the Créhange House. The architecture combines Romanesque and Gothic elements, offering deep insight into feudal life during the Middle Ages. Visitors can tour the reconstructed halls and enjoy the sweeping views over the scenic village of Larochette and the surrounding forests of the Müllerthal region.
