Schiessentümpel (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Schiessentümpel is a scenic waterfall on the Black Ernz river in the Mullerthal region, often referred to as Luxembourg's Little Switzerland. The most famous feature of this site is the characteristic stone bridge, built in 1879 using local sandstone and lime mortar, which spans the three cascades of the fall. The architecture of the bridge blends harmoniously into the rugged rocky landscape, formed by millennia of erosion of the Luxembourg Sandstone. Geologically, the area belongs to the Liassic formation, deposited approximately 200 million years ago, which today forms deep gorges and bizarre rock structures. The Schiessentümpel has become the symbol of the region and a central point of the 112-kilometer-long Mullerthal Trail hiking network. Visitors appreciate the cool atmosphere in the forested valley, which shows impressive water power particularly in spring after the snowmelt. Despite its modest height of only a few meters, the waterfall remains one of the most photographed natural monuments in the Grand Duchy.
