Kuelscheier (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Kuelscheier is one of the most famous and adventurous rock groups in Luxembourg, located near Consdorf in the Mullerthal. It consists of a massive sandstone block crisscrossed by a system of extremely narrow, dark tunnels and crevices. Historically, the site was likely used as a hiding place and for charcoal production, as suggested by its name (charcoal barn). Traversing the main crevice is only possible with a flashlight, as the passages lead deep into the rock where no daylight enters. Geologically, Kuelscheier showcases the impressive power of erosion, which has split the hard sandstone along vertical fissures. The site is a key attraction for hikers on the Mullerthal Trail seeking the thrill of narrow passages. The damp and cool climate inside the rocks also provides a specialized habitat for insects and bats.
