Cornelysmillen Nature Reserve (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Cornelysmillen nature reserve near Troisvierges is one of the most valuable wetlands in northernmost Luxembourg. The area surrounding a former mill is traversed by the Woltz river and hosts an exceptional diversity of rare peat soils and fen vegetation. Ecologically outstanding is the area's importance as a nesting site for endangered bird species such as the Red-backed Shrike and the European Stonechat. Through targeted rewetting measures, the original character of the floodplain has been restored, benefiting rare plants such as the Bogbean and various sedge species. Visitors can explore the area on a wooden boardwalk that leads through the sensitive marshy areas with dry feet. Cornelysmillen is also an important site for research on bog development and climate protection through carbon storage in the soil. The peace and Nordic feel of the landscape make a visit a special nature experience in the Éislek region.
