Buurgplaatz (Luxembourg)

Weather…

Buurgplaatz, also known as Burgplatz, is a prominent hill in northern Luxembourg near Huldange in the municipality of Troisvierges. With an altitude of 558.35 meters, it was considered the highest point in the Grand Duchy for decades until newer measurements identified nearby Kneiff as being slightly higher. At the summit, there is a stone water tower that is visible from afar, as well as a monument with an information board about the region's geography. Geologically, Buurgplaatz is part of the Ösling plateau and consists of resistant quartzites and slates from the Lower Devonian. From here, a wide panoramic view opens up over the hilly landscape of the Ardennes, extending far into Belgium and Germany. The site is a popular destination for hikers and cyclists as it lies directly on major routes such as the Vennbahn. Despite losing the title of highest mountain, Buurgplaatz remains the best-known viewpoint in the north of the country due to its infrastructure and visibility.
