Šilalė is a welcoming and tranquil small town in the Samogitia region of western Lithuania. First mentioned in the 16th century, the town serves as the administrative and cultural center of the district of the same name. The surrounding landscape is characterized by the gentle, rolling hills typical of Samogitia, inviting visitors for long walks and exploration. A special architectural highlight is the impressive Neo-Gothic St. Francis of Assisi Church in the town center, which dominates the cityscape with its spirited red bricks. Despite its small size, just over 5,000 residents, Šilalė cultivates strong cultural traditions, a deep devotion to the regional dialect, and an animated sense of community, far removed from major traffic arteries.
