Kaltinėnai Church
The Church of St. John the Baptist in Kaltinėnai is a unique example of modern sacred architecture in Lithuania, rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1988. Designed by architect Ričardas Krištapavičius, the structure departs from traditional church forms, featuring a monumental triangular shape reminiscent of a sail or a mountain peak. Construction began in 1990 and the church was consecrated in 1995, symbolizing Lithuania's spiritual renewal following its restoration of independence. The interior is equally modern, with light filtering through high, narrow windows to create a distinctive spiritual atmosphere. A freestanding bell tower complements the ensemble and serves as a prominent landmark in the hilly landscape of Samogitia. The church functions not only as a place of worship but also as a hub for cultural events and concerts within the Šilalė district.
