Bint Jbeil is a town of historical significance in southern Lebanon, located within the Nabatieh Governorate just a few kilometers from the Lebanese-Israeli border. The settlement is one of the largest administrative and commercial centers in southern Lebanon, with a demographic that is predominantly Shia Muslim. Historically, Bint Jbeil has been a crucial hub of Lebanese Shia scholarship, producing numerous recognized theologians and thinkers. The town rests in a valley basin and has traditionally derived its income from tobacco farming and olive oil production. During the conflicts of the 20th and 21st centuries, particularly the 2006 war, the town's infrastructure was almost entirely obliterated, but it has since undergone extensive reconstruction funded by international aid and the diaspora. Every Thursday, a traditional open-air market (souk) is held, drawing shoppers and traders from across the region to exchange local agricultural goods.
