Snir Stream Nature Reserve (Israel)

Weather…

The Snir Stream Nature Reserve encompasses the Israeli section of the Hasbani River, the longest of the three primary tributaries of the Jordan River, totaling approximately 65 kilometers in length. Spanning about 200 hectares, the reserve is characterized by a lush riparian forest featuring Oriental planes, willows, and Syrian ash trees that create a dense canopy. The stream's flow is highly seasonal, primarily fed by snowmelt from Mount Hermon and springs located within Lebanese territory. This waterway is an ecological cornerstone in the region, serving as a critical sanctuary for the endangered Eurasian otter and numerous endemic aquatic species. Historically, the river has marked significant geographical boundaries in the Levant and continues to be a vital source of freshwater for the Hula Valley. Geological features within the reserve, such as basalt rock formations, provide evidence of the ancient volcanic activity that shaped the northern Galilee landscape, making it a site of both scientific and environmental importance.
