Jounieh is a densely populated coastal city in Lebanon, situated at the base of the Keserwan Mountains, approximately 16 kilometers north of Beirut. The settlement evolved into a prominent resort town during the second half of the 20th century, experiencing significant population growth during the civil war. Jounieh is closely associated with the Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon on the Harissa hilltop, accessible via a cable car (Téléphérique) that ascends from the coastline. The city's economy heavily relies on tourism, entertainment, and retail, hosting numerous restaurants, nightclubs, and the luxurious Casino du Liban. The coastal strip along the bay is highly favored by enthusiasts of various water sports. The demographic composition is overwhelmingly Maronite Christian. Despite its modern development, the city retains a historic souk and old quarters around the port featuring 19th-century stone houses.
