Bhamdoun is a highly popular mountain resort town in the Mount Lebanon range, located just 23 kilometers east of Beirut along the main highway to Damascus. Perched at an elevation exceeding 1,000 meters above sea level, its excellent summer climate has made it a favored retreat for Beirut's elite and Arab tourists from the Gulf since the mid-20th century. Historically, Bhamdoun served as a key station on the Beirut-Damascus railway, a factor that significantly drove its early development. The town sustained severe damage during the Lebanese Civil War, though extensive reconstruction projects have revitalized the area since the early 2000s. The modern iteration of Bhamdoun features luxury hotels, animated nightlife, and numerous traditional dining venues. The permanent local demographic is predominantly Greek Orthodox Christian. The surrounding agricultural lands are exceptionally well-known for their vineyards and the quality wines produced from them.
