The Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve is located in the Keserwan District of Mount Lebanon and safeguards the eponymous mountain. Covering over 65 square kilometers, the reserve features historical sites from the Roman era, including well-preserved pathways and ancient inscriptions attributed to Emperor Hadrian. The biodiversity features over 700 plant species and a multitude of rare wildlife, including hyenas, bats, and birds of prey. Since its recognition by the UNESCO MAB program in 2009, the reserve has successfully intertwined cultural heritage with nature conservation. The site also operates local workshops that produce traditional Lebanese food products to support the regional economy.
